Extended gamer’s experience into real world: Elementary school students enactive display in math classrooms

Game Transfer Phenomena is a new inquiry line in game research, but it remains mostly at the conceptual level. In this study, we empirically study how primary school students transfer their gaming experience into the construction of math problems. Specifically we found some students draw from their gaming experience to construct mathematic problems. Three themes were identified in describing such transfer: (1) Constructing math problems with game mechanics, (2) using the representational system in game to construct math problems, and (3) internalizing trial-and error strategy via multiple lives.
